Uttar Predesh is a very big State. In my opinion, the State
needs to be divided into more manageable areas of administration—Western
UP, Eastern UP or Bundelkhand, so that people can focus more on implementation
of policies,” says Ashok Chandra, a 1959-batch UP cadre IAS officer. He should
know because he served at various levels in the Uttar Pradesh government
for close to 15 years before moving to the Centre for 11 years with a five-year
stint as adviser to the Afghan government in between.
